The New York University Softball Team split its two games on Friday, March 18, in Clermont, FL.
After dropping a 4-3 decision to
#19-ranked Rowan University (11-4), the Violets (4-7) snapped a five-game losing streak with an 11-3 win over Edgewood College (7-9).
In the opener, NYU trailed 2-0 but went ahead with three runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Erin Scott had a run-scoring double,
Hannah Lee knocked in the second run with a single and
Lauren Kong followed with another single to give the Violets the lead.
However, the Profs scored a single run in the next two innings, winning in the bottom of the seventh on a walk-off fielder's choice on a close play at home plate.
Marina Egbert (2-3) went the distance for NYU.
Carrying a five-game losing streak into the nitecap against Edgewood, the Violets utilized a six-run fourth inning to break open a close game as
Kalena Paredes and
Samantha Burggraf contributed two-run doubles in the frame.
Paredes finished the contest with four hits and three runs scored, while Kong and
Sophia Leon had three hits each.
Maggie Swan (2-2) hurled a complete game for the Violets, striking out six and not allowing a walk.
The Violets complete their Florida slate tomorrow when they face the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (10:00am) and Washington and Jefferson College (12:15pm)
