The New York University women's fencing team opened its 2022-23 dual meet season at the Sacred Heart University Invitational in Fairfield, CT, on Sunday, December 4.
The Violets went 2-4 in their six matches, defeating host Sacred Heart (22-5) and Vassar College (18-9).
Against Sacred Heart, six NYU fencers collected at least two wins and were undefeated.
Ria Jobalia was 3-0 in epee,
Sharon Ni and Alison Dunlap were 2-0 in saber, while
Polly Adler,
Chiara Codazzi and
Talia Perlman each recorded 2-0 marks in foil.
Against Vassar,
Annika Santos was a perfect 3-0 in foil, while
Anna Lanzman (epee) and
Leanne Chan (saber) each went 2-0.
"Our women left everything on the strip, and even though they came up short in a few of our matches they had some individual victories that I think really showed signs of great things to come, particularly in sabre," said Head Coach
Ben Bratton.
The squad will be back on the strip in the New Year when they compete at the Philadelphia Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, January 21-22.
