Tennis Duo Completes Play at ITA Cup

Fordham and Krause Depart as All-Americans

New York University's tennis duo of Dakota Fordham and Ida Krause completed competition at the ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Cup at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, GA, on Friday, October 14.

Krause opened her day by defeating Alice Hall of Sewanee: The University Of The South 6-1, 6-4, while Fordham lost to Stephanie Shulman of University Athletic Association (UAA) rival Emory University (6-3, 6-3) in her only match of the day.

Krause finished tied for fifth in the singles draw while Fordham placed seventh.

"It wasn't the finish that the women wanted, but it should not take away from the strong fall that they had," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "Everyone at this tournament earned their way here and if your level was a little off, your opponent was there to capitalize. It was a good wrap to the fall and we look forward to the spring season."

After their singles competitions were done, the NYU duo teamed up to face Margaret Carlton and Lauren Long of Washington & Lee University in doubles, winning 6-3, 6-3. Krause and Fordham concluded their doubles action by taking on Jay Lu and Sarah Pertsemlidis of MIT, falling 10-8 in a close battle.

Both players secured All-America honors in both singles and doubles. As a duo, they earned honors by winning the ITA Northeast Region doubles titles. Krause earned All-America in singles by winning the ITA Northeast Region singles competition, while Fordham's was secured by winning her opening match yesterday.

Fordham is now a four-time All-American, having earned both honors last season, as well.

Fordham, Krause and the rest of the NYU women's tennis team will be back in action when the Violets open their spring schedule on February 25 against Hamilton College.
