Two members of the New York University Women's Tennis Team will be competing on Monday, September 20, at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional Championships, which are being held at William Smith College in Geneva, NY.
Carol Plakk (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese Spordigümnaasium) and
Dakota Fordham (New York, NY/Laurel Springs), who are seeded 1 and 2, respectively, in singles, have been competing since Saturday and have now advanced to Monday's semifinals.
"We were all very pumped going into this tournament and it has been a great experience for everyone," Fordham said. "For the upcoming matches, I'm looking to have a good time on the court no matter what the outcomes are."
Both players have won four matches to reach this stage, with neither Violet having dropped a set. In the quarterfinals on Sunday, Plakk defeated NYU teammate Anastastia Balyk 6-1, 6-4, while Fordham got past Alex Mednikova of RPI 6-4, 6-2.
"The players have had good results and for the most part, played well," said Head Coach
Horace Choy. "Tomorrow will be another test for both women, and I look for them to step up to the challenge."
In Monday's semifinals, Plakk will face Hannah Apsey of Hamilton College and Fordham takes on Katherine Almquist of Skidmore College
The duo will also be competing in the championship match of doubles after defeating Aspey and Lauren Holtzman of Hamilton in the semifinals on Sunday. Charlotte Roarty and Jenny Landells of TCNJ are their opponents in the final.
