On Saturday, February 8, the New York University women's fencing team competed in the Fairleigh Dickinson University Invitational, in Teaneck, NJ.
The Violets went 5-0, defeating Wagner College (20-7), The City College of New York (27-0), Hunter College (27-0), Stevens (14-13), and LIU-Brooklyn (24-3).
Ria Jobalia (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) recorded the most epee victories for the Violets at 10-1 in epee. She was a perfect 3-0 against four of the five teams faced.
Chiara Codazzi (Rome, Italy/St. Stephens) was perfect in foil going 12-0, while
Sarah Prilutsky (Princeton, NJ/Princeton Day) also had 12 wins (12-1).
Elizabeth Sweetra (Summit, NJ/Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child) won sabre eight bouts, including four against LIU-Brooklyn in the final round of the day.
"We did a great job today," said Assistant Coach
Lauren Willock Wunderlich. "There were a lot of strong performances from every weapon."
The Violets return to action on Wednesday, February 12, for the Columbia University Invitational.
