Men's Tennis Opens 2020 Spring Campaign

Violets Fall to Host Swarthmore

The New York University men's tennis team, in their opening match of the 2020 Spring season, fell to host Swarthmore College 6-3 on Saturday, February 29 in Flushing, NY. 
 
The Violets are currently ranked #35 in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Swarthmore now 5-1 this season, is ranked #32.
 
In doubles play, the Violets had a few really strong matches, winning two out of the three contests. Alex Yang (Plainsboro, NJ/West Windsor Plainsboro ) and Stefan Rodic (Belgrade, Serbia/Washington International School (Washington D.C.)) won the #2 match 8-6, while Vishal Walia (Edison, NJ/John P. Stevens) and Lucas Biondi (Purchase, NY/Rye Country Day School) won the #3 match 8-3.
 
The lone singles victor for NYU was Walia at #2 (6-1, 6-4).
 
"I'm proud of the effort we put forward today," said Assistant Coach Eric Halpern. "Although we lost, the match was very competitive and we know what to do better next time."
 
The Violets return to action tomorrow, March 1, when they host North Carolina Wesleyan College at the Stadium Tennis Club in the Bronx, NY. The match is set to begin at 11:00 AM.
