The New York University women's tennis team, ranked #19 in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), followed up yesterday's season opening-win with another victory as they beat #25 Christopher Newport University 8-1 on Saturday, February 22, in Swarthmore, PA.
The Violets are now 2-0 on the season, while the Captains fell to 1-3.
In doubles play, the Violets came out strong and set the tone with three decisive victories.
Anna Maria Buraya (Toronto, Canada/Bayview Glenn School) and
Karina Jensrud (Olso, Norway/Laurel Springs School (Ojai, CA)) won the #1 match 8-5,
Coco Kulle (Vienna, Austria/Choate Rosemary Hall (CT)) and
Anastasiia Balyk (Odessa, Ukraine/Boca Prep International) won the #2 match 8-1, and
Rupa Ganesh (San Jose, CA/Lynbrook) and
Judy Kam (Beijing, China/University) won the #3 match 8-4.
NYU carried the momentum from doubles play into singles, winning five out of six matches.
"The women played well and we got contributions from everyone," said Head Coach
Horace Choy. "Our strength is our depth and the ability to get points anywhere. It was a good opening weekend against two good teams."
The Violets return to action on Sunday, March 1, when they face North Carolina Wesleyan College at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx, NY, at 11:00am.
