The New York University wrestling team, ranked #9 in the nation by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA), split a pair of duals on Saturday, January 25 in Hoboken, NJ.

NYU (8-5) defeated Manchester University 45-4 after falling to #6 Johnson & Wales University 30-11.

Izaake Zuckerman (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) (174) and Jack La Corte (Monmouth Beach, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) (197) led the way for NYU on Saturday, with both posting 2-0 records with two major decisions.

Cole Karam (Bath, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) (165) was NYU's only other winner against Johnson & Wales, posting a victory by decision at 165-pounds.

Evan Drill (Neshanic Station, NJ/Somerville) recorded a major decision win against Manchester after losing by decision to Johnson & Wales' Da'Mani Burns, who is #7 nationally in the 149-pound weight class.

Trent Furman (Washington Township, NJ/Westwood Regional) (133), Kade Loughney (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) (165) and Will Ortman (Hopewell Valley, NJ/Hopewell Valley Central) (285) all won by fall against Manchester, while Luke Brantly (184) recorded a win by decision.

"I thought a lot of our guys wrestled well against Johnson & Wales," said Head Coach Bruce Haberli. "But, against a highly-ranked team like that, everyone has to be at their best in order to win."

In total, NYU captured 12 of 20 bouts on the day.

NYU returns to action on Saturday, February 1, when the squad takes on Stevens at 1:00pm in Hoboken, NJ.
