The New York University women's fencing team won two of its four matches on the first day of competition at the University of Pennsylvania Invitational, which is being held Saturday and Sunday, January 18-19, in Philadelphia, PA.
The Violets, now 5-6 in dual meets this season, defeated Lafayette College (23-4) and FDU-Florham (21-6), but fell to host U. Penn (19-8) and Johns Hopkins University (21-6).
NYU's top performer of the day was freshman
Anna Lanzman (Brooklyn, NY/Stuyvesant). Competing in epee, she posted an overall record of 9-2, including a perfect 3-0 performance against FDU-Florham.
A pair of Violet sophomores produced terrific results in sabre, as both
Chloe Chen (Lumberton, NJ/Moorestown Friends) and
Allison Dunlap (Redondo Beach, CA/Vistamar) went 8-4. Both fencers were a perfect 3-0 vs. FDU-Florham, while Dunlap also went 3-0 against Lafayette.
In foil, both sophomore
Grace Park (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills West ) and freshman
Chiara Codazzi (Rome, Italy/St. Stephens) produced 6-6 records, including perfect 3-0 marks against Lafayette.
The squad is right back in action beginning at 8:30am on Sunday for the second and final day of the invitational.
