The New York University men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 University Athletic Association (UAA) match against the Emory University Eagles on Saturday, October 17.
NYU hosted the Eagles at Pittser Field in Montclair, NJ.
The Violets played defensively in the first half, often keeping the ball in their own end. Emory's Ewen Robertson scored the only goal of the match at the 30:26 minute mark.
NYU started to increase its press in the second half. As a result, they dominated the offensive pace within the last 45 minutes. Their best chances to score were a header from
Demir Calkap at 85:56 and a shot from
Eric Wainer with one minute remaining, both saved by Emory's goalkeeper, Geoffrey Halpern.
Despite dominating throughout most of the second half the Violets could not put the ball in the net, resulting in the shutout loss.
"We started the game really flat, and we just weren't clinical enough in the final third," said Head Coach
Kim Wyant. "But, every moment whether we win or lose, is a learning moment for our team."
Nine out of 22 shots landed on target for NYU, while Emory recorded only two on goal.
The loss against Emory marks the third consecutive 1-0 UAA loss for the Violets.
Tim Brdaric led the team with six total shots, followed by three shots each from Calkap and Wainer.
"We decided to use Tim in the frontline, and we were able to get the ball to him in the second half," said Wyant.
NYU returns to the pitch against Carnegie Mellon University on Friday, October 23, in Pittsburgh, PA. The match will start at 5 PM.
