Men's Soccer Plays to a Draw

Violets Tie 2-2 at #5 Case Western Reserve

The New York University men's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw against #5-ranked Case Western Reserve University on Sunday, October 25, in Cleveland, OH.

The tie ended the Violets' four-match losing streak within the University Athletic Association (UAA).

The Violets started the match with an aggressive attacking approach, finding key chances within the opponents' half. Their early pressure eventually paid off when Mark Shields scored the first goal of the match in the 22nd minute mark, sending the ball into the bottom right corner of the net.

NYU kept up their offensive pace in the second half and extended its lead to 2-0 with a goal from Keyon Namdar in the 55th minute.

However, Case Western Reserve quickly responded with a goal of their own from Cormac Apostolides, just three minutes after NYU's second goal.

The Violets switched to a heavy defensive scheme to preserve their lead, attempting to maintain as much possession as possible. However, Apostolides scored his second goal of the match in the final minute off an assist from Owen Guffey, creating the 2-2 stalemate.

The Violets outshot the Spartans 16-10 and generated a total of 10 corners. Seven of NYU's 16 shots landed on goal, while Case Western Reserve recorded six out of 10. Namdar led the Violets with three shots, all of which landed on target.

NYU had suffered four straight 1-0 losses in UAA competition.

The Violets return to the pitch on Saturday, October 31, when they host Washington University in St. Louis on Senior Day. The match-up is scheduled to begin at 1pm on the campus of the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark, NJ.
