The New York University men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 University Athletic Association (UAA) match against Carnegie Mellon University on Friday, October 23, in Pittsburgh, PA.
Both teams played a heavy defensive scheme in the first half, often prioritizing holding possession rather than taking offensive risks. Neither side scored a goal, which led to a 0-0 scoreline heading into halftime.
Carnegie Mellon started to increase their offensive pace when play returned. The Tartans' Dominic Hoar-Weiler scored a quick goal just five minutes into the second half, which was assisted by Tristan Gonzalez.
In response, the Violets picked up their offensive pace, but struggled to reduce turnovers as they tried to find an equalizer. Despite out-shooting the Tartans 11-8, NYU was unable to put the ball in net, resulting in another shutout loss. Their best chance to score was on a shot by Keyon Namdar at the 72-minute mark, which was saved by CMU's goalkeeper, Kai Yamamoto.
Three out of 11 shots landed on goal for NYU, while CMU recorded four out of eight.
The Violets spread out their offensive chances, as Tim Brdaric, Sandy Duggal, and Namdar all recorded two shots.
This 1-0 defeat marked NYU's fourth consecutive 1-0 UAA loss.
NYU returns for another match against Case Western University on Sunday, October 25, in Cleveland, OH. The match will start at 11:00 AM.
