The New York University men's soccer team opened its 2019 home season with a 1-1 tie against Baruch College on Saturday, September 14, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale.
The host Violets (0-4-1) snapped their four-game losing streak while the Bearcats are now 2-3-1 this season.
NYU opened the scoring just 10:18 into the contest.
Sergio Monton (Madrid, Spain/Fundacion Fomento) recorded his first goal of the season, connecting on a free kick from just outside the box.
Baruch's Michael Grald knotted the score with less than 20 minutes remaining in regulation (71:05) when he headed in a corner kick played in by Adonis Martinez.
Neither team was able to tickle the twines the rest of the way.
NYU outshot Baruch 19-11 overall and 8-5 in shots on goal.
Luca Mancuso (Miami, FL/Montverde Academy) started in net for the Violets and and made four saves, while goalkeeper Kellen Sela made seven saves for the Bearcats.
"We played at a great tempo in the first half, but we slowed down and played to their speed in the second," explained Head Coach
Kim Wyant. "It's been typical of our season thus far where we've had the ball a lot, creating opportunities in the attacking third but not converting."
The Violets return to action on Wednesday, September 18, when they play at SUNY Maritime. The game is scheduled for kickoff at 7:30pm.
