Baseball Team Posts Win on Saturday

Violets Defeat St. Joseph's-Brooklyn 5-1

The New York University baseball team posted its 26th victory of the season with a 5-1 win over St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn on Saturday, May 4, at Breslin Field in Lyndhurst, NJ.

For the second time this season, Sal Cammisuli went the distance for the Violets (26-12). He allowed only four hits and struck out two.

After NYU scored a run in the bottom of the first on Jack Elias' single, St. Joseph's (15-21-1) managed to tie the game on an unearned run in the top of the fourth.

The game remained deadlocked until the host Violets plated four in the bottom of the eighth. The rally started when Ryan McLaughlin and Colman Hendershot drew consecutive one-out walks. Elias, who finished the game with three hits, was hit by a pitch and Cooper Halpern cleared the bases with a triple.

Grant Berman doubled in Halpern with the game's final run before Cammisuli (5-2) finished the job in the top of the ninth.

"Great performance by Sal. He was on all afternoon," said Head Coach Doug Kimbler. "It was a big win for us after we had our winning streak snapped yesterday. Just a real solid job by our players."

The Violets close out the regular season with a game at Ramapo College on Tuesday, May 6. First pitch in Mahwah, NJ, is scheduled for 3:30pm.
