The New York University baseball team fell 6-5 in 11 innings to Ramapo College on Saturday, May 11, in Mahwah, NJ.
NYU (26-13) trailed 5-2 and was down to its last out in the top of the ninth, but rallied for three runs to tie the game at 5-5 before the Roadrunners (26-14) ended the game with a run in the bottom of the 11th.
The Violets scored the first two runs of the game in the top of the first when
Cooper Halpern singled home
Jack Elias and
Ryan McLaughlin.
Ramapo answered immediately with two runs in the home half of the inning to tie the contest at 2-2.
The Roadrunners scored one run in each of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to take the 5-2 advantage.
With two outs in the ninth,
Francis Prior tripled to score Halpern and
Nicholas Villanueva, who each singled earlier in the inning.
Jack Walter then singled on a bunt, which scored Prior to tie the game.
Joseph Prisco took over the mound was able to get through the ninth and 10th innings facing the minimum six batters. In the 11th, however, Ramapo tallied a pair of hits off Prisco, with the second bringing home the game-winning run.
Saturday's game marked the end of the 2019 season for NYU, which has won at least 20 games in all five seasons since bringing back its program in 2015.
