Women's Tennis Defeated by Brandeis

Violets Suffer First Loss of the Season

OFFICIAL RESULTS

The New York University women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday, April 6, falling to Brandeis University 6-3 in Waltham, MA.

The Violets now sit at 6-1 on the season, while the Judges improve to 8-4 with the win.

In doubles play, the women lost two very close matches. Anna Maria Buraya and Coco Kulle fell 8-7 (3) in the #1 match, and Kate Shaffer and Rupa Ganesh lost 8-7 (4) in the #3 match.

In singles play, the Violets were able to secure three victories. Buraya won the #1 match 6-4, 7-6 (5), Kulle won the #2 match 6-2, 6-1, and Vanessa Scott won the #6 match 6-2, 6-0.

"It was a tough loss," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "The doubles was the key. We had some chances and lost two in tiebreakers. You cannot let good teams get that far ahead of you. We will have an opportunity to rebound and UAA (University Athletic Association) Championships to look forward to. There are things we will work on."

The Violets return to action on Saturday, April 13, when they take on William Smith College at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx.
