Softball Drops a Pair to Brandeis

Violets and Judges Return to the Diamond for Another Doubleheader Sunday

The New York University softball team lost both ends of a University Athletic Association (UAA) doubleheader to Brandeis University on Saturday, April 6, at Bahoshy Field in the Bronx.

Brandeis (13-0-1, 2-0 UAA) took the first game 3-1, before winning the second game 9-1 to remain undefeated. NYU dropped to 13-7 on the season and 1-3 in UAA action with the losses.

The Violets got on the board first in game one, scoring their only run of the contest on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Lauren Kong in the second inning.

Brandeis answered immediately, however, scoring three runs in the top of the third inning to take a 3-1 lead, which it held on to for the remainder of the game.

NYU was only able to record three hits off of the Judges' starting pitcher Scottie Todd, who improved to 7-0 in the circle this season.

The Violets also struggled offensively in game two, only tallying five hits and one unearned run off Brandeis pitcher Sydney Goldman.

Brandeis scored a run in the third inning and held onto its 1-0 lead until the sixth when it added three more to take a 4-0 advantage into the final inning. In the seventh, the Judges tacked on five more runs and NYU scored its unearned run in the bottom of the frame to make the final score 9-1.

Five different Violets recorded a hit in game two, including Diana King and Caroline Saccacio, who each hit a double.

The Violets and Judges will complete their four-game series on Sunday morning at Drew University. First pitch is slated for 9:00am in Madison, NJ.
