Violets Face Carnegie Mellon on Senior Day

Split Doubleheader Against Tartans

On Saturday, April 27, the New York University softball team split a doubleheader with Carnegie Mellon University in a pair of University Athletic Association (UAA) contests at Bahoshy Field in the Bronx, NY.

The host Violets won the first game 5-2, but fell in the nitecap 7-5.

In the opener of the Senior Day twinbill, Maggie Swan's stellar pitching led the way. She went six innings without allowing an earned run and striking out three. She also went 2-for-3 at the dish with an RBI.

Several seniors also contributed to the victory. Ashley Mains went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a triple. Diana King hit a solo home run, a sacrifice fly and stole a base while Jacqueline Finn had two hits including a double.

Senior Scarlett Murphy closed out the win with a perfect inning for her first save of the season

In the second game, another senior, Claire Stefanelli, went 3-4 with 4 RBIs. Her two-run home run gave NYU a 4-3 lead after five innings.

However, the Violets could not hold the lead as the Tartans scored four runs in the top of the seventh.

Senior Karissa Zubulake pitched into the seventh, but could not get the final three outs and suffered the loss.

Mains had a triple and an RBI in the contest.

"I'm glad that our seniors played well today, but it would have been great to walk away with two wins," said Head Coach Now-Allah James. "But, we are right back out there tomorrow and will have two more chances."

The Violets conclude their regular season tomorrow with another doubleheader against Carnegie Mellon, starting at 9:00am at Bahoshy Field.
