Men's Volleyball Wins a Pair

Violets Improve to 12-8

The New York University men's volleyball team hosted a tri-match at the Brooklyn Athletic Facility on Saturday, March 30, and defended its home floor with a pair of victories.

NYU (12-8) first defeated 13th-ranked Arcadia University (23-7) in five sets and then avenged an earlier season loss to St. Joseph's College - Long Island (17-5), defeating the Eagles in four sets. In the middle match of the day, St. Joseph's defeated Arcadia in straight sets.

Against Arcadia, the Violets won the first and third sets, while the Knights won the second and fourth to force a winner-takes-all fifth set. It was all NYU in the fifth set as the Violets scored the first four points of the frame and never looked back en route to a 15-8 match-clinching victory.

Alex Li (14 kills), Evan Lindley (11 kills) and Tyler Flood (10 kills) all tallied double-digit kills as NYU out-hit the Knights .260-.212. Ryan Whealen and Matin Bikdeli split the setting duties for the Violets and dished out 26 and 17 assists, respectively.

In the win against St. Joseph's, the Violets won the first two sets, but the Eagles took the third to keep the match going. NYU regained its composure in the fourth set, dominating its way to a 25-16 win to clinch the match.

Neil Ferraro's 10 kills paced the Violets against St. Joseph's as NYU out-hit its opponents .257-.108. Bikdeli's 35 assists were a team-high, while Ferraro finished with a match-best 10 blocks, including a pair of solo blocks.

NYU returns to the court on Wednesday, April 3, when it travels to take on Vassar College in its final United Volleyball Conference (UVC) match of the season. First serve is slated for 7pm in Poughkeepsie, NY.
