The New York University baseball rebounded from a loss in dominating fashion, defeating the Illinois Institute of Technology 16-0 on Monday, March 18, in Auburndale, FL.
NYU (7-2) got a strong pitching performance from
Sal Cammisuli and had four players collect two hits as it rolled past the Scarlet Hawks (3-3) to bounce back from Sunday's 5-4 loss to SUNY New Paltz.
Cammisuli improved to 2-0 on the mound this season after tossing five shutout innings, while allowing just two hits and not issuing a walk. He was relieved by
Oliver Boyce and
Braeden Duff, who each pitched a scoreless inning to preserve the squad's second shutout this season.
The NYU pitching staff allowed just three hits for the second-consecutive contest.
Offensively,
Colman Hendershot knocked in four runs, while
Ford Ladd collected three RBI and
Jack Walter and Nick Villaneuva each tallied a pair. Ten Violets recorded at least one hit in Monday's victory, including Walter, Ladd, Villaneuva, and
Francis Prior, who each had two baseknocks.
Ryan McLaughlin was 0-for-1, but reached base five times as he was hit three times and walked twice. The senior captain came around to score four times, as well.
NYU returns to the diamond on Tuesday, March 19, when it takes on SUNY Plattsburgh at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, FL. First pitch at Steinbrenner Field, the spring training home of the New York Yankees, is slated for 7pm.
