Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | The Violets competed in the second weekend of UAA

Women's Volleyball Splits on Sunday

The New York University women's volleyball team continued University Athletic Association (UAA) play with competition at UAA Round Robin #2, hosted by Emory University in Atlanta, GA, on  Sunday, October 6.

The Violets (15-5) faced the University of Rochester (8-12) in their first match on Sunday, and then played host Emory (15-1) later in the afternoon.

In the first match, the Violets won in three dominant sets. The squad battled the Yellowjackets throughout the morning en route to tabbing final scores of 25-19, 25-21, 25-14.

Abby Ausmus (San Diego, CA/La Jolla Country Day School) and Haley Holz (Palatine, IL /Palatine) led the team in kills with eight. Nicole Dao (Bethesda, MD/The Academy of Holy Cross) had 15 assists, while Jacqueline Kupeli (Danville, CA/Monte Vista) contributed a team-high 13 digs.

"Today was a big day to come out and get the win in straight sets against a tough Rochester team," said Head Coach Andrew Brown. "This speaks volumes for the commitment and hard work our team has been putting in this season."

The Violets battled hard in the second match forcing four games against the Eagles, but ultimately fell by scores of 25-10, 25-19, 16-25 and 25-17.

Maddie DeJong (Houston, TX/Second Baptist School) led the way this time with a match-high 11 kills. Veronica Johnson (17) and Dao (15) each tabbed double-digit assists. Kupeli led the Violets with 18 digs.

The Violets return to action on Thursday, October 10, when they host Montclair State University. That matchup is slated for 7 pm.
