The New York University women's cross country team posted a second-place finish in the White Race at the Paul Short Invitational, which was hosted by Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA, on Saturday, October 5.
The Violets posted a team score of 175 points, trailing only Haverford College (157) in the 41-team race.
Siena Moran (Princeton, NJ/Princeton) took home her second individual win of the season, crossing the line of the 6k course in 21:52.4. She beat the second-place finisher by 18 seconds, despite being neck-and-neck with under a mile to go.
"It's been a while since we've had someone break 22 minutes," Head Coach Erison Hurtault said. "It says that she's stepping up her game as the competition gets tougher, so I still don't think we've seen the best of her."
Finishing behind Moran for NYU were
Leah Haley (Windsor, CA/Montgomery) in 25th place (22:59.5) and
Milly Ames (Chapel Hill, NC/Chapel Hill), who took 27th (23:01.7).
The other two scorers for the Violets were
Julia Mao (59th place, 23:38.9) and
Gabrielle Stankosh (62nd place, 23:41.2).
In total, 342 runners competed in the race.
"It was another really good race. We competed extremely well," Hurtault added. "Placing second in that race obviously says something special about them."
The Violets' next competition is the Metropolitan Championship on Friday, October 11, in the Bronx.
