Women's Soccer Falls to Carnegie Mellon

Violets Suffer Their First UAA Loss of the Season

The New York University women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday, October 12, in Pittsburgh, PA.

The host Tartans got on the board first in the 36th minute of play thanks to a ball off the boot of Stephanie Ramsay that found the back of the net.

Gabriella Funk (Freemont, CA/Irvington) opened up the scoring for the Violets in the 52nd minute of action. However, Carnegie Mellon quickly answered back with a goal scored by Alex Adams in the 58th minute to secure the victory for the host team.

Saturday's loss moved NYU, ranked #18 in the most recent United Soccer Coaches Poll,  to 9-3 overall and 1-1 in UAA play.

"We are obviously disappointed with the result today," said Head Coach Michele Canning. "We thought we could've done a better job taking care of the ball and making decisions."

NYU goalkeepers Meghan Marhan and Sophia Danielsen (Coral Springs, FL/Pine Crest School) split the game between the posts. Marhan tallied one save while Danielsen notched two saves in the loss.

The Violets will be right back in University Athletic Association (UAA) action this Friday, October 18, when they host Washington University in St. Louis at Gaelic Park.  That matchup in Riverdale, NY, is scheduled for 5:00pm.
