The #21-ranked New York University women's soccer team was edged 2-1 by #4 Washington University in St. Louis on Friday, October 18, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.
The Violets (9-4, 1-2) trailed in the University Athletic Association (UAA) matchup 1-0 after the Bears' (12-1-1, 3-0) Erin Flynn scored an unassisted goal early in the second half (49:21).
Approximately 20 minutes later, the host Violets knotted the score (69:43) when
Isabella De Almagro (Pembroke Pines, FL/American Heritage) took a shot, which defected off Wash U.'s keeper Emma Greenfield and rebounded back to De Almagro who slipped it in on her second opportunity.
The NYU lead was short-lived, however, as Taylor Cohen scored the game-winner for the Bears at 73:46.
Wash U. dominated most of the play throughout, out-shooting NYU 15-3 overall and 9-3 in shots on goal, The Bears also led 6-1 in corner kicks.
Meghan Marhan (Glen Ridge, NJ/Glen Ridge) recorded seven saves in net for the Violets, while Greenfield had two.
The Violets are right back in action this Sunday, October 20, when they host another UAA opponent, University of Chicago, at 11:00am at Gaelic Park.
