#17 Wrestling Splits Two Duals on Saturday

Grapplers Defeat Southern Maine, Fall to #2 Johnson & Wales

COMPLETE RESULTS

The New York University wrestling team split a pair of dual matches at the WPI Duals on Saturday, January 26, at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, MA.

NYU (12-2), which was ranked #17 in the most recent National Collegiate Wrestling Association poll, first fell to #2 Johnson & Wales University (19-4) 32-13, before bouncing back to defeat the University of Southern Maine (4-10) 35-9.

Junior captain Evan Drill was the only member of the squad to earn two wins on the afternoon, earning both at 141 pounds and by decision.

Drill, who finished fourth at last year's NCAA Championship to earn All-America honors picked up a huge victory over two-time All-American Joe Ferinde of Johnson & Wales via a 3-1 decision.

Will Crisco (133 pounds) and Jacob Lill (285 pounds) also earned wins against the Wildcats, doing so by major decision and fall, respectively.

NYU won the first seven, and eight of 10 overall, bouts against Southern Maine. Leading the way were Dylan Dwyer (157 pounds), Kade Loughney (165 pounds), Jackson Kligerman (184 pounds), and Jack La Corte (197 pounds), who all earned bonus point victories.

The loss against Johnson & Wales snapped NYU's eight-match winning streak.

The grapplers will return to the mat tomorrow, when they travel to Johnson & Wales to take part in the Wildcat Open in Providence, RI.
