The New York University women's volleyball team opened up its University Athletic Association (UAA) schedule on Saturday, September 29, and fell to Carnegie Mellon University and Emory University. The matches were part of the first UAA Round Robin, which is being hosted by Brandeis University in Waltham, MA.
NYU was first defeated by Carnegie Mellon 3-1 (30-28, 25-11, 27-29, 25-13) and then fell in straight sets to Emory (25-23, 25-19, 25-20).
The Violets are now 11-6 on the season while the Tartans improved to 12-5 and Emory, which is currently ranked #8 in the nation by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, now boasts a 10-3 record.
Gretchen Kincade led the Violets against CMU, recording 12 kills and a match-best five blocks, while
Nazzerine Waldon and
Abby Ausmus chipped in with nine and eight kills, respectively.
Against Emory, Ausmus finished with a match-high 10 kills and didn't make an error in 26 total attacks. The freshman also tallied three blocks and a service ace. Also performing well against the Eagles was
Maddie DeJong, who recorded seven kills in 15 attacks.
The Violets wrap up play at the first UAA Round Robin on Sunday when they take on the University of Rochester at 10am.
