Women's Soccer Suffers Road Loss

VIolets Fall to Mount Saint Mary 2-0

The New York University women's soccer team traveled to Newburgh, NY, on Saturday, September 22, to take on host Mount Saint Mary College and was defeated 2-0.

NYU (3-4-0) allowed two goals in the first half and was never able to get back into the game as the Knights improved to 4-4-1 on the season.

Mount Saint Mary opened up the scoring in the 18th minute when Julia DeSantis knocked in a corner kick from Brittany Bornstad.

The Knights doubled their lead to 2-0 right before halftime as Alexa Franceschi found the back of the net. Franceschi's goal was assisted by Maggie-Ann Zecca and also came following a corner kick.

The Violets best chance of the afternoon came just after halftime when Isabelle Turner took a shot that got past the Mount Saint Mary goalkeeper, but hit off the post. Turner was one of six NYU players to take a  shot, with Ellie Marks being the only Violet to take more than one.

Meghan Marhan made three saves in the loss as NYU was out-shot 8-7 overall and 5-4 in shots on goal. The Violets did, however, hold the advantage in corner kicks, taking seven and allowing just three.

The Violets return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Hackettstown, NJ, to play Centenary College at 7pm.
