Women's Volleyball Wins Sixth Straight

Defeat Mt. St. Vincent in Four Sets on Thursday

The New York University women's volleyball team took on the College of Mount Saint Vincent and won its sixth match in a row on Thursday, September 20, in Riverdale, NY.

The four-set victory (25-13, 24-26, 25-23, 25-19) extended the Violets' (10-3) longest winning streak since 2016 when the team won nine in a row. Mt. St. Vincent (1-9) has now lost six straight.

NYU never trailed in the first set, racing out to a 5-1 lead en route to the easy victory.

In the second set, the Dolphins trailed by as many as five points. Still down 23-19, the home team scored five straight for set point. The Violets managed the next point before Mt. St. Vincent put the set away with two straight.

"The first set saw us play some of our best volleyball so far this season," said Head Coach Andrew Brown. "Mt. St. Vincent made some good adjustments in set two and I think we took our foot off the gas."

The Violets faced a four-point deficit, 17-13, in set three, but used a late surge to even things up. With the score tied 23-23, a kill by Kate Glavan and a Dolphin attack error ended the set.

In the final set, NYU trailed by as many as three points. But, a kill by Sabrina Krebs broke a 17-17 tie and the Violets never trailed again

"I think we showed some really good effort in the last two sets," Brown explained.

Nazzerine Waldon led the Violets with 15 kills, while Abby Ausmus had 14. Stella Alverson and Katie Goyette led the way with 30 and 22 assists, respectively. Jacqueline Kupeli (13) and Waldon (12) produced double-digit digs.

"We will continue to work and build off our performance tonight," Brown concluded.

The Violets will be back in action on Friday, September 21, at 5:00 pm when they take on Middlebury College for the first match of the Ramapo Classic in Mahwah, NJ.
