The New York University men's soccer team earned its fourth-straight win, defeating host John Jay College 2-0 on Wednesday, September 12, on Randall's Island in New York City.
NYU (4-1-0) and the Bloodhounds (1-3-0) played a scoreless first half and the game remained tied 0-0 until midway through the second half when the Violets scored a pair of goals less than four minutes apart.
The first of those goals came off the foot of NYU's leading scorer,
Oliver Kleban, who redirected a cross from
Owen Smith into the back of the net in the 65th minute. Kleban, a freshman, now has four goals this season and has scored in three-straight games.
Pablo Vargas doubled the Violets' lead in the 69th minute when he corralled a loose ball in the box and shot it past John Jay goalkeeper Steven Towler.
The NYU defense allowed just one shot on goal in Wednesday's win and
Grant Engel was able to stop it. Engel posted his second shutout of the season in the win. Towler made seven saves in a losing effort.
The Violets return to action on Saturday when they take on Hunter College back on Randall's Island at 1pm.
