The New York University baseball team suffered a 7-3 setback to host Farmingdale State College on Tuesday, May 1, in Farmingdale, NY.
NYU's record now stands at 27-12 this season, while the Rams improved to 23-12.
The contest was scoreless until Farmingdale St. scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. The Violets answered right away, however, with RBIs from freshmen
Francis Prior and
Chris Cassandra to knot the score at 2-2.
Farmingdale St. broke the tie with a run in both the fourth and fifth, and then took control of the game with three more runs in the sixth to make the score 6-2.
An NYU run in the seventh cut the deficit to four, 7-3, but the Violets offense stalled from there and the squad was defeated by a non-conference foe for just the second time this season.
The Rams held the Violets to four hits on the evening, with two of those coming from
Cooper Halpern.
Cameron Serapilio-Frank started on the mound for NYU and tossed five innings, while allowing three earned runs and striking out four.
Aaron Ackerman pitched two scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
The Violets will close out the regular season on Monday, May 7, when they travel to Hoboken, NJ, to take on Stevens Institute of Technology. First pitch is scheduled for 7pm.
