The New York University baseball team closed its 2018 season with a 10-1 victory at host Stevens Institute of Technology on Monday, May 7, in Hoboken, NJ.
NYU (28-12) benefited from a terrific start by senior captain
Cameron Serapilio-Frank and took advantage of six Stevens (25-15) errors in the win.
Serapilio-Frank tossed 8.1 innings, allowing just three hits and one run while striking out six to improve to 9-2 on the season.
Jonathan Iaione laced a two-run single in the third inning to open up the scoring and the Violets tacked on a pair of unearned runs later in the frame on a Ducks error.
Stevens cut into the lead with a run in the home half of the fifth, but NYU answered quickly with three more runs in the top of the sixth to make the score 7-1. Lubbock, TX, natives
Jack Walter and
Colman Hendershot each recorded an RBI-single in the inning.
The Violets added an insurance run in the eighth when a sacrifice fly from
Isaac Martinez plated Iaione and two more in the ninth on a two-RBI single off the bat of
Cooper Halpern.
Serapilio-Frank came out in the ninth inning and retired the leadoff hitter before handing the ball to fellow captain and classmate
Matthew Millus, who recorded the final two outs.
Walter and Iaione each had three hits to lead the NYU offense, while Hendershot and Halpern each tallied a pair of baseknocks.
Monday's game concluded the 2018 campaign for the Violets.
