The New York University women's tennis team, playing its first University Athletic Association (UAA) opponent of the season, continued its dominance through the Spring portion of the season with a narrow 5-4 victory over Brandeis University on Saturday, April 7, at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx.

It was a busy day at the home court, as both the women and men's teams from NYU and Brandeis were playing matches at the same time. For the women, the Violets' victory keeps them undefeated at the halfway mark of the season with a record of 5-0, while the Judges now drop to 7-4.  

"Brandeis was ahead of us in the rankings and this win should propel us into the top-20 or close to it for the first time ever," said Head Coach Horace Choy.

NYU came out swinging, taking the first two doubles matches behind a commanding 8-3 rout by Rupa Ganesh and Judy Kam (#3 doubles) and a close 8-6 victory from Anna Maria Buraya and Coco Kulle (#2 doubles). 

In singles, Buraya got things started for the Violets in #1 singles by staving off her opponent in a close first set and ultimately overpowering her in the second set (6-4, 6-2). Flyora Shiyanova followed this up with a decisive victory in #3 singles (6-2, 6-4). Kulle sealed the deal by giving the Violets their fifth and final win of the match in a back-and-forth contest in #2 singles (6-2, 2-6, 6-2). 

"The women had a good win after the long layoff," added Choy. "Our women played well and deserved to win."

The Violets have no time to rest as they are back in action on Sunday, April 8, at 12:00 pm against SUNY Geneseo in the Bronx during the team's Family/Alumnae Day celebrations.
