The New York University men's tennis team was swept 9-0 by University Athletic Association (UAA) opponent University of Chicago in day one of the UAA Championship on April 26, in Altamonte Springs, FL.

The Violets (5-8) went into the first day of the tournament as the the seventh seed out of eight, while the Maroons (14-4) were the second seed and #3 in the country.

In the doubles round, NYU got its best match from Rahul Das and Vishal Walia (#3), who played well but ended up with an 8-4 loss.

At #1 singles, Umberto Setter (#45 nationally) won the only set for the Violets, but couldn't seal the deal in the rest of his match after narrowly losing second and third set tiebreakers [1-6, 7-6 (7-4), 1-0 (12-10)]. Yanik Parsch and Michael Li also played a couple of close matches at #6 and #4, respectively, but both came up short of victory in a pair of 6-3, 6-4 losses.

"There were some close first sets and I thought we played tough," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "Ultimately, Chicago proved why its the #3 team in the country. They have a very deep squad"

The Violets will look to rebound after this loss when they return to the courts at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 26 for day two of competition when they'll play #6 Case Western Reserve University.
