For the ninth time in a row this season, the New York University women's tennis team has come out victorious. This time it was through a 7-2 win over Skidmore College on Sunday, April 22, at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx. 

This marks the first time in team history that the Violets (9-0) have gone undefeated in dual meets leading up to the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship. In addition, Sunday's win might just be what it takes to move #21 NYU up into the ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) top-20 for the first time as Skidmore (12-5) entered the match at #17.

The Violets got off to a solid start in the doubles round. Anna Maria Buraya and Coco Kulle (#2) made quick work of their matchup in an overwhelming 8-2 win. Rupa Ganesh and Judy Kam (#3) staged a major comeback after a slow start to take the match 8-6. Flyora Shiyanova and Vanessa Scott (#1) almost made it 3-0 for NYU in doubles, but couldn't quite hold on to win their back-and-forth match (9-8).

NYU got off to a great start in the singles round with dominant victories from Kam (6-1, 6-1) at #6 and Ganesh (6-3, 6-1) at #4. Scott (#5) and Shiyanova (#3) also had great matches. Both of them got ahead of their opponents early on and held off a couple of second-set surges to secure their victories (6-2, 6-3, and 6-2, 6-4). The final win of the day came from Kulle (#2), who narrowly edged out her opponent 7-6 in the first set and sealed a 6-3 victory in the second.

"I'm very proud of this team and how they've competed," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "To win five of six singles against a team like Skidmore shows we are ready for the UAA Championship, where the competition will only get tougher."

NYU will take this victory and their perfect record into the UAA Championship beginning this Friday, April 27, in Altamonte Springs, FL.
