The still-unbeaten #21 ranked New York University women's tennis team did it again on Sunday, April 15, when they defeated William Smith College 8-1 in Geneva, NY.
Even though they had less than a day's rest following Saturday's 9-0 sweep of the University of Rochester, the Violets (8-0) continued their quality play, dropping only one match to the Herons (8-5).
The Violets held nothing back as they swept the doubles round.
Flyora Shiyanova and
Vanessa Scott at #1 and
Anna Maria Buraya and
Coco Kulle at #2 dominated their opponents en route to 8-2 and 8-1 wins, respectively.
Rupa Ganesh and
Judy Kam had more of a challenge at #3, but it was nothing they couldn't handle as they took the match 8-6.
The Violets went into the singles round with the same energy and ferocity they had in doubles. Everyone played well on Sunday, most notably Kulle (#2), who held her opponent to just a single win (6-1, 6-0), and Kam (#6), who made quick her work in matchup as well (6-1, 6-2).
"The women continue their strong play this season," said Head Coach
Horace Choy. "They took care of business with a strong start at doubles and carried it into singles."
After a well-earned rest, the Violets will be back in action against Skidmore College on Sunday, April 22, at 11:00 am in the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx. That will be their last match of the season before the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship.
