The New York University men's tennis team came up short on Sunday, April 15, falling 7-2 to host Hobart College in Geneva, NY.
The Violets saw their overall record drop to 4-6 this season, while the Statesmen improved to 9-5.
After hard-fought losses in the first two matches of the doubles round, NYU managed to pull out a close win (8-7) at #3 behind strong play from
Vishal Walia and
Rahul Das.
In singles, Walia (#2) again stepped up, winning the only other match for the Violets in dramatic fashion. After a strong first set (6-2), Walia fell behind in the second (3-6), but ultimately came back and won it by the slimmest of margins in the third (7-6).
Yanik Parsch (#5) got close to securing another win for the Violets, but he fell short of completing the comeback (6-4, 2-6, 6-3).
"I thought the guys fought hard," said Head Coach
Horace Choy. "The team competed well and pushed Hobart, but it wasn't enough."
The Violets will return to the court on Saturday, April 21, at 12:30 pm, to face Ohio Wesleyan University in Cleveland, OH.
