The New York University women's tennis team has continued its undefeated season. On Saturday, April 14, the squad posted its third shutout in a row, this time a 9-0 sweep over University Athletic Association (UAA) opponent the University of Rochester, in Rochester, NY.
The #21-ranked Violets are now a perfect 7-0, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 6-8.
NYU got things rolling early on in the doubles round.
Flyora Shiyanova and
Vanessa Scott (#1) soundly defeated their opponents 8-4, while
Anna Maria Buraya and
Coco Kulle (#2) breezed through their matchup with a 8-1 victory.
Judy Kam and
Rupa Ganesh (#3) faced stiffer competition, taking their match right down to the wire in a very close duel that ended 8-7 (7-4).
The Violets continued their dominance into the singles round where they won every set. Kulle (#2) got things started after winning a tight first set 6-4, only to sweep the second set 6-0. Other highlights included Ganesh's (#4) commanding 6-1, 6-1 rout, and Kam (#6) battling hard in another close match, this time winning 6-4, 6-3.
"Having the TCNJ match postponed on Thursday made the women eager to get back on the court," said Head Coach
Horace Choy. "UAA rivalries bring out the best in teams and our women were up to the challenge."
The Violets have another quick turnaround as they head to Geneva, NY, to face William Smith College at 9:00 am on Sunday, April 15.
