The New York University men's basketball team was defeated 97-59 by host Brandeis University in University Athletic Association (UAA) action on Saturday, February 24, in Waltham, MA.
The contest was the season finale for both NYU (10-14, 3-11 UAA) and Brandeis (7-18, 3-11 UAA).
Brandeis jumped out to a 47-20 lead at halftime behind an impressive shooting performance from beyond the arc. The Judges drained 7-of-9 attempts from deep (77.7%) in the first half, while the Violets made just 1-of-10 (10.0%).
The Judges extended their lead to as many as 48 with 5:19 remaining in the second half, ultimately winning the game by the 38-point margin.
Brandeis finished the game shooting 59.1% (13-for-22) from three-point range and 57.4% (35-for-61) from the field.
Ross Udine, NYU's lone senior, led the squad with 14 points in his final game as a Violet.
Eric D'Guanmo led five Judges in double figures with 20 points.
NOTABLES:
- Udine's impressive NYU career comes to an end with 1,276 points and 571 assists. He leaves the program with the 10th-most points in program history and the most assists, a record he broke earlier this season. The two-year captain played in 99 games over his four-year career and helped lead the 2015-16 squad to the Second Round of the NCAA Championship as a sophomore.
"I feel fortunate to have been able to coach a player as talented as Ross the past few years," said NYU Assistant Coach
Taylor Roth. "His statistical numbers speak for themselves, but what I will miss most is his competitiveness and the relationship that we built day in and day out over the past three seasons."
-
Ethan Feldman (nine points),
Dom Cristiano (eight points) and
Cameron Moore (eight points) also chipped in on offense for NYU.
- Earlier this season, NYU defeated Brandeis 90-82 at the Sportsplex in Manhattan.
Saturday's game concluded the 2017-18 campaign for the Violets.
