The New York University men's basketball team suffered a 87-82 setback to the University of Rochester in University Athletic Association (UAA) action on Sunday, January 21, at the Sportsplex in Manhattan.
With the game tied at 40 late in the first half, Rochester (13-3, 4-1 UAA) scored nine-straight points and never relinquished its lead en route to a fourth-straight UAA victory. The Violets (8-7, 1-4 UAA) scored the final two points of the first half as the teams went into halftime with the visitors ahead 49-42.
NYU scored the first three points of the second half to cut the lead to four, but Rochester answered with seven straight to increase the margin to a game-high 12 points with 14:50 remaining.
The Violets cut into the lead several times, but were unable to get it under four until a basket from
Dom Cristiano made the score 85-82 with just two seconds left on the clock. Rochester's Michael Mangan drained a pair of free throws with 0.2 seconds left to make the final score 87-82.
Ross Udine led all scorers with 21 points and also dished out six assists, while Mangan led four Yellowjackets in double figures with 17 points.
Rochester came into the game allowing just 63.1 points per game, which was first in the UAA by almost 10 points.

- Cristiano recorded a double-double, scoring 18 points to go along with 13 rebounds. He was joined in double figures by Udine,
Ethan Feldman (17 points) and
Jimmy Martinelli (10 points).

Ted Georgiadis chipped in offensively with a season-high nine points.
- Feldman and
Cameron Moore each had a game-high three steals for NYU.
- The Violets shot just 3-of-19 from three-point range (15.8%), while Rochester was 6-of-15 (40.0%).
- Sunday's game was NYU's third-straight against a ranked opponent as the squad took on Washington University in St. Louis (#6) last Sunday and Emory University (#17) on Friday, before today's game against the 25th-ranked Yellowjackets.
The Violets continue their four-game UAA homestand on Friday evening, January 26, when they host Carnegie Mellon University. Tip-off against the Tartans is slated for 8pm at the Sportsplex.
