The New York University women's swimming & diving team was defeated 183-115 by host West Chester University on Saturday, January 20, in West Chester, PA.
The meet was the second in as many days for the Violets, who swam at Williams College in Western Massachusetts on Friday and then bussed down to West Chester for Saturday's meet.
"The goal of this weekend was to prepare us for UAA's (University Athletic Association) and NCAA's," said Head Coach
Trevor Miele. "While it would have been nice to come away with the victory, racing on consecutive days against elite-level competition is most important this time of the year.
NYU (3-4) was led by
Honore Collins, as the 2016-17 National Champion won three events. She took home first place in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.47), 200-yard breaststroke (2:25.97) and 200-yard IM (2:09.91).
May Li was also a winner, completing the 100-yard backstroke in 58.21.
Sydney Catron added to her impressive freshman season with a victory in the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.42)
On the diving boards,
Kelly Ryser and Ashlyn King took home second-place finishes in the one-meter (257.85) and three-meter (245.78) dives, respectively.
"Overall, I thought we swam well and are set up well to swim faster at the end of the year.," Miele concluded.
The Violets return to the pool next Saturday when they host the University of Bridgeport at 1pm in the Palladium Athletic Facility Natatorium in Manhattan.
