Men's Basketball Beaten by Bears

Violets Fall to Wash U. 113-75

The New York University men's basketball team was defeated by Washington University in St. Louis 113-75 in a University Athletic Association (UAA) road contest on Sunday, January 14, in St. Louis, MO.

Jimmy Martinelli, who led the Violets (8-5, 1-2 UAA) with 19 points, opened the game with a three-pointer. NYU still led 24-23 after Ross Udine hit a trey with 12:29 remaining in the opening half.

However, the Bears (12-2, 3-0 UAA), responded with a 32-12 run and took the lead for good. Washington, ranked #6 in the nation by D3hoops.com, led 61-47 at halftime.

The Violets shot 50% (16-of-32) from the field in the first half, but the Bears were even deadlier, hitting their shots at a 57.5% (23-of-40) clip.

Washington scored the first six points of the second half and continued to build its lead to a game-high 39 points late in the contest.

NET NOTES:

- The 61 points allowed by NYU in the first half were the most given up in team history, while the 113 total was highest since March 9, 1989 (a 116-78 loss to Kean College in the ECAC Tournament).

- Udine (17) and Cameron Moore (11) also scored in double figures.

- Bobby Hawkinson contributed nine points with a team- and career-high-tying eight rebounds.

- Kevin Kucera led six Bears in double figures with 19 points.

NYU returns to action this Friday, January 19, when UAA play continues back in NYC. The Violets will host Emory University at 8:00pm at the Sportsplex on 68th Street and Lexington Avenue in Manhattan,
