The New York University men's basketball team was defeated by Washington University in St. Louis 113-75 in a University Athletic Association (UAA) road contest on Sunday, January 14, in St. Louis, MO.
Jimmy Martinelli, who led the Violets (8-5, 1-2 UAA) with 19 points, opened the game with a three-pointer. NYU still led 24-23 after
Ross Udine hit a trey with 12:29 remaining in the opening half.
However, the Bears (12-2, 3-0 UAA), responded with a 32-12 run and took the lead for good. Washington, ranked #6 in the nation by
D3hoops.com, led 61-47 at halftime.
The Violets shot 50% (16-of-32) from the field in the first half, but the Bears were even deadlier, hitting their shots at a 57.5% (23-of-40) clip.
Washington scored the first six points of the second half and continued to build its lead to a game-high 39 points late in the contest.
NET NOTES:
- The 61 points allowed by NYU in the first half were the most given up in team history, while the 113 total was highest since March 9, 1989 (a 116-78 loss to Kean College in the ECAC Tournament).
- Udine (17) and
Cameron Moore (11) also scored in double figures.

Bobby Hawkinson contributed nine points with a team- and career-high-tying eight rebounds.
- Kevin Kucera led six Bears in double figures with 19 points.
