Women's Soccer Records Fourth-Straight Shutout

Violets Open Up UAA Play Saturday at CMU

The New York University women's soccer team defeated the College of Staten Island 3-0 on Wednesday, September 27, on Staten Island.

Isabelle Turner scored two goals for NYU (5-2-1), while Sophia Danielsen saved the only CSI (6-3-1) shot on goal to preserve the Violets' fourth-consecutive shutout.

Turner, who came into Wednesday's game without a goal this season, scored twice early in the first half to give NYU a comfortable lead. Alex Benedict set up the first goal, striking a corner kick into the box, which Turner was able to redirect into the back of the net with her head 5:21 into the contest. The second goal was assisted by Ashlyn Krygowski and Marquel Love less than 11 minutes later.

Julia Raith made the score 3-0 later in the first half when she blasted a shot over the keeper and into the net from about 40 yards out. It was the freshman's second goal of the season.

Neither team scored in the second half as the NYU defense did not allow CSI to take a shot on Danielson. The Violets' defense, which has been led all season by Sharon Lee, Maddie Howard, Nalani Ogawa, and Maddy Schier, is allowing just four shots on goal per game.

NOTABLES:

- Turner is the first Violet to score multiple goals in a game this season.

- Three different goalkeepers - Danielsen, Michaela Brickley and Meghan Marhan - have posted shutouts for NYU through eight games.

- The Violets last shut out four-straight opponents in 2014, which was also their most recent appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

- NYU is now 4-0 all-time against the Dolphins.

The Violets return to action on Saturday, September 30, when they travel to Pittsburgh, PA, to take on Carnegie Mellon University in their University Athletic Association (UAA) opener. Kickoff is slated for 1:30pm.
