The New York University men's tennis team completed its 2016-17 season, placing seventh at the University Athletic Assocation (UAA) Championship which ended on Sunday, April 23, at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, FL.
The Violets defeated the University of Rochester 7-2 to finish the season at 10-4. This is the team's first 10-win season since 2011-12.
Leading the way for NYU were senior
Umberto Setter and freshman
Michael Li. Setter defeated Jun Yuminaga and Masaru Fujimaki 8-4 with partner junior
Samuel Khoshbin in #1 doubles, and then beat Sam Leeman 6-2, 6-3 in #1 singles. Li bested Mattias Hartveit and Leeman 8-2 with sophomore partner
Benedict Teoh in #2 doubles, then defeated Andrew Nunno 6-2, 6-0 in #3 singles.
"The men had a good season overall," said NYU Head Coach
Horace Choy. "We would have liked to have done better at the UAA's, but there were a lot of strong teams here."
OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:
- Freshmen
Vishal Walia (6-1, 6-1) and
Xavier Pacthod (3-6, 6-2, 1-0, retired) finished their first seasons with victories, defeating the Yellowjackets in #4-5 singles, respectively.
- Sophomore
Yanik Parsch defeated Ryan Zu 6-1, 6-1 in #6 singles.
"This was a good experience for our team and will help them next season," added Choy.
