The New York University women's tennis team has concluded its 2016-17 season, placing seventh at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Saturday, April 22, at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, FL.
The Violets defeated the University of Rochester 7-2 to end the season with an 8-5 record.
NYU won two of three doubles matches to start, and followed that with wins in five of six singles contests. Three Violets - sophomore
Alice McGinty (#2 doubles, #5 singles) and freshmen
Rupa Ganesh (#3 doubles, #2 singles) and
Judy Kam (#3 doubles, #3 singles) - led the way with wins in both singles and doubles play.
OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:
- Sophomore
Vanessa Scott, along with McGinty, won their #2 doubles match 8-6 over Abbey Reinhart and Alex Wolkoff.
- Senior
Laila El Dessouki (6-4, 6-2) and freshman
Nikki Ong (6-2, 5-7, 10-8) earned wins for the Violets in #4 and #6 singles, respectively.
"It was a good way to wrap up the season," said NYU Head Coach
Horace Choy. "The women are disappointed to not have won another match or two down here, but I expect them to work hard over the summer and hope to have another good year next year."
