Softball Drops Doubleheader to Wash U.

Violets Fall 4-3 In Game One, 9-1 in Game Two

The New York University softball team dropped both ends of a University Athletic Association (UAA) doubleheader to Washington University in St. Louis at Bahoshy Field in the Bronx, NY, on Friday, April 28.

The Violets (17-17, 4-8 UAA) were nipped in game one 4-3 and then fell in the nightcap 9-1 to the Bears (25-11, 10-4 UAA). 

Caroline Saccacio smacked a two-RBI double to left center to put NYU ahead 3-1 in the bottom of the third of the opener.

The Violets allowed one run in the sixth, but maintained a 3-2 lead. In the seventh, Washington tied the game with an RBI double and scored the game-winning run on an infield single to win game one 4-3.

Cassi Parulis started in the circle and pitched 6.2 innings, striking out eight while allowing 11 hits and three earned runs.

In game two, Claire Stefanelli drove in Diana King on a RBI groundout in the bottom of the first to tie the game 1-1. However, the Bears scored in five of the six innings played en route to taking the finale 9-1.

Karissa Zubulake started for NYU in game two and tossed four innings, allowing three earned runs and six hits.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

- Saccacio was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

- King, Stefanelli and Ashley Mains scored one run apiece.

- Rachel Fulton went 1-for-2 with a RBI.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

- Saccacio and King each went 1-for-3.

- Olivia Mould pitched two innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits, striking out one.

On Saturday, April 29, the Violets and the Bears return to Bahoshy Field for a doubleheader beginning at 6:00 pm. This will be NYU's final home contests of the season and the team will also celebrate Senior Day.
