Complete Results

The New York University women's tennis team completed its first day of play at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Thursday, April 20, at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, FL.

The seventh-seeded Violets were defeated by #2 University of Chicago 7-2.

NYU earned three-set victories from freshman Rupa Ganesh and senior Laila El Dessouki. Ganesh defeated Rachel Kim 6-1, 2-6, 10-5 in #3 singles, while El Dessouki bested Estefania Navarro 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 in #5 singles.

"We responded after getting down early and played some competitive singles matches - winning two," said NYU Head Coach Horace Choy. "However, it wasn't enough in the end."

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:

- Ganesh and fellow freshman Judy Kam dropped a close 8-5 match to Ariana Iranpour and Courtney Warren in #3 doubles.

The Violets resume tournament play tomorrow against #6 Brandeis University.

"We hope to rebound tomorrow against Brandeis," added Choy.

The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm.
