The New York University men's tennis team is set to compete at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Friday-Sunday, April 21-23, at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, FL.
The Violets (9-2) head into the tournament looking to improve on their seventh-place UAA finish from last season. The team is currently in the midst of their winningest season since 2011-12.
A duo of seniors - Umberto Setter and
Matt DeMichiel - have led the way for NYU. Setter has accumulated a 21-5 record in singles play (8-3 in duals) and an 8-9 record in doubles play, and DeMichiel has gone 16-7 and 15-6, respectively, in singles and doubles play.
In addition, the Violets have gotten significant contributions from its freshman class.
Vishal Walia (12-5) and
Michael Li (10-3) have each accumulated double-digits wins in singles play, while
Xavier Pacthod and
Zeb Zheng have seen a lot of success in the spring. Pacthod became a regular singles competitor midway through duals play and finished 5-1 in his six matches. Zheng teamed up with DeMichiel in #3 doubles, and the pair went a perfect 6-0 in duals.
NYU begins UAA play against third-seeded University of Chicago on Friday at 9:00 am.
