Softball Splits DH with Manhattanville

Violets Return to Action Friday at Brandeis

The New York University softball team split a home doubleheader with Manhattanville College on Tuesday, April 11, at Bahoshy Field in the Bronx.

Manhattanville (15-8) won game one 7-0, before NYU (12-10) came back to win the nitecap 10-9.

NYU couldn't solve the Valiants' starting pitcher Alycia Feeney in game one. The junior three-hit the Violets en route to a complete game shutout to improve to 8-4 in the circle this season. Claire Stefanelli was the only NYU player to reach base twice, doing so each time via a walk.

The Violets' bats came alive in game two, as NYU pounded out 12 hits. Molly Webber recorded hits in all three of her at bats to lead the NYU offense. She added three RBIs, as well. Diana King, Claire Stefanelli and Sage Scheiwiller each added a pair of hits in the win.

"We got some key hits at critical moments in the second game," said NYU Head Coach Now-Allah James. "We also added some insurance runs late, which proved to be huge for us."

Katherine Piorkowski started game two in the circle for the Violets and went four innings to improve to 4-1 on the season. Olivia Mould worked out of trouble in the seventh inning to earn her second save of the year, stranding the tying runner at third base.

"We have a big weekend coming up with four conference games," added James. "We need to carry the momentum from the game two win into the weekend."

The Violets return to action on Friday, April 14, when they travel to Waltham, MA, for the first two games of a four-game University Athletic Association (UAA) series against Brandeis University. First pitch for game one against the Judges is slated for 3pm.
