Softball Records UAA Sweep Against Brandeis

Violets Even Association Record at 3-3

The New York University softball team recorded a doubleheader sweep of University Athletic Association (UAA) foe Brandeis University on Friday, April 14, in Waltham, MA. NYU won game one 10-2 in six innings before winning game two 6-3.

Friday's games were the first two of a four-game UAA series between the Violets (14-10, 3-3 UAA) and the Judges (8-9, 3-4 UAA).

NYU set the tone early, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning of the opener. Karissa Zubulake took over from there, pitching a complete game while allowing just one earned run and striking out five Judges to earn her sixth victory of the season.

"It's always important to score early," said NYU Head Coach Now-Allah James. "Not only are you ahead from the beginning of the game, but you have the other team working from behind and playing on their heels."

Diana King opened up game two with a home run and the Violets never looked back as Cassi Parilius pitched into the seventh inning, allowing just two earned runs. NYU added a pair of runs in the fifth inning before King broke the game open with her second home run of the game in the sixth as the Violets held on to win and even their UAA record at 3-3.

"Diana proved how great of an all-around player she is," added James. "Not only did she hit two big home runs, but she also laid down a perfect bunt. She can do a lot of things for us."

Game One Highlights:

- Caroline Saccacio finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.

- King, Jacqueline Finn and Ashley Mains each scored a pair of runs.

- Molly Webber finished with a game-high three RBIs.

- Eight Different Violets recorded at least one hit in the win.

Game Two Highlights:

- King finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored and also batted in three runs.

- Saccacio recorded another multi-hit game with a pair of singles.

- Katherine Piorkowski came out of the bullpen to record the final two outs and earn her first save of the season.

"We need to keep this going tomorrow," concluded James. "We have to keep up the solid pitching, great defense and timely hitting and hopefully we can get some more wins."

NYU and Brandeis will play games three and four of the series tomorrow afternoon in Waltham. First pitch of the opening game of the doubleheader is slated for 12pm.
