In singles play, all six NYU players - Shiyanova (7-6 (2), 6-3), sophomore Vanessa Scott (6-4, 6-3), Ganesh (6-1, 6-0), Kam (6-0, 7-5), El Dessouki (6-2, 6-0) and freshman Nikki Ong (6-2, 6-2) - picked up victories to handily defeat the Herons (5-4).

"We worked through a bit of a slow start, but picked up the win" said NYU Head Coach Horace Choy. "We'll look to build on that for tomorrow's match."

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:

- Before the match, El Dessouki, the lone senior on the roster, was honored as part of Senior Day.

"As it was Senior Day, it was fitting to get two important points from Laila," added Choy.
